Flatbed trailer

Flatbed trailer

Some body manufacturers have a flatbed trailer in their portfolio. This low loader trailer is characterized by its very low loading platform. With low loaders are large piece goods as heavy haulage transported. Because of this special construction the vehicle is able to drive under bridges and tunnels.

There are manufacturers which design multi-axis flatbed trailers for these special logistical tasks. These vehicles are designed for the transport of heavy haulage, for example as construction machine trailer. The advantages of the lowered platform are not only the possibility to drive through tunnels, but also the facilitated loading and unloading. Flatbed trailers are able to carry extremely high goods without exceeding the predefined limits.

An example is the flatbed semi-trailer 3-axle by the company Kögel. This new flatbed trailer has three characteristic features: first the offset plateau, secondly the chamfered high bed and thirdly by its low own weight. It is suitable for two- and three-axles tractor units because of its mobile kingpin.
The company Titan special vehicles produces also flatbed trailers. The company has its headquarters in Sulzbach/Murr. The vehicles from this company seem really gigantic just as titans out of the Greek mythology. The company designs semitrailer tractors and special vehicles for the application in oilfields, also called oilfield vehicles, and in open-cast mining. Titan offers also individual custom-built trucks.

Further the company is an official rebuild partner of Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks and designs by order of Mercedes flatbed trailers and the heavy haulage tractor Actros SLT. Titan is considered as a specialist for low loader chassis. In February 2013 a new 8×8 ARFF chassis has left the factory. It is applied as an airport fire truck. In the edition 1/2012, the magazine “FEUERWEHR FREAK” covers the delivery of the first two airfield fire engines FLF Z8 XXL to the FRAPORT airport Frankfurt. The technical details are described as two Mercedes-Benz V8 diesel engines with each 650 HP and two Allison automatic transmissions. The chassis is very cross-country, has a permissible total weight of 52 tons. The 48 tons heavy vehicle accelerates in 21 seconds to 80 km/h, has a maximum speed of 135 km and complies with the emission standard 5.
